Kono Pizza; The pizza shaped like a cone! @konopizzanj

Party of 5 visited Kono pizza in Edison NJ. This happens to be the ONLY Kono Pizza in The US as of now. Kono pizza originated in Italy. They are currently trying to open a franchise in Red Bank NJ, and open for more franchise opportunities.

*Disclosure: Party of 5 received a complimentary dinner in order for our exchange. As always, all opinions are my own and that of my families.*

Kono Pizza is open from 7am-10pm. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We did not sample the breakfast menu, or Freskissimo Konos (sandwiches in a Kono), however they all look delicious and I will be trying on our next visit! There are two size Konos to choose from. Small- good for kids, and if you just want a snack, or regular good for adults and for a meal. Both are very filling. Konos ingredients are fresh and from local merchants. We ordered the Margherita (plain) for the kids, the Vegetariano (veggie), the Bianco (white), the Carni (meant), and the Pollo Parmigiana (chicken parm).

The process is really cool to watch. They start with a dough shaped cone; precook it for a few then add layers of sauce, cheese, and toppings. They do a few layers so that you get a bit of everything in every bite. Not just at the top like you would assume. It does not take any longer than waiting for a slice to be heated up at a traditional pizza place.  However they have an area with tablets and seating that worked great for our kids while they were waiting.

Once the food came the kids were so interested at the shape and presentation of the pizza. Comes in a cone shape and rests inside of a little stand to hold it up. Once it cooled down we dug in. Every single bite was good. The taste was fresh, and well balanced with each ingredient. The kids loved theirs as well. Everybody wanted more, which is always a good sign. My personal favorite was the Vegetariano Kono. It had fresh veggies and was just the perfect amount of ingredients to balance the cone. The Vegeteriano has almost 200 calories less than a traditional slice of veggie pizza, and the best part is, it’s delicious!

They also offer desserts in cones. There are about 4 or 5 choices the adults had Nutella Classicos and the kids tried Frutta E Crème. The Nutella filled Kono has nuts and bananas and was out of this world. It is warmed just enough to be melty ,gooey, and yummy. The kids loved the Frutta because it has fresh berries on top and yummy custard inside. A great ending to our new style pizza dinner.

As an overall experience I definitely would recommend Kono Pizza to everyone especially people with kids. It is a new and different way to enjoy pizza. It is an experience that everyone will enjoy from watching them make the food to eating the new spin on a traditional classic. Enjoy!
